Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finnic *sülki, from Proto-Uralic *śülke. Cognate to Finnish sylki, Erzya [script needed] (śeľge, saliva), Udmurt с′ал (s′al, saliva) and Mansi [script needed] (saľγ-, to spit).
