Pela[edit]
Alternatives forms[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From sɛ⁵⁵ ja⁵⁵ (“(out in) the open; forest; wilderness”) + tsai⁵⁵ (“thing, stuff, item”). Compare Zaiwa yoso ze.
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
sɛ⁵⁵ ja³¹ tsai⁵⁵
- wild beast, wildlife
- kau³⁵ nju̠ŋ³¹ sə̆ ja³¹ tsai⁵⁵
- livestock and wild beasts (i.e animals)
Usage notes[edit]
Pela originally lacked a general term for animals. Although tu³¹.sat⁵⁵, a loanword from Zaiwa is sometimes given, some speakers consider it a direct adoption from Zaiwa (the Zaiwa word is itself a loanword from Jingpho as well).
