Pela[edit]

Alternatives forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From sɛ⁵⁵ ja⁵⁵ ((out in) the open; forest; wilderness) +‎ tsai⁵⁵ (thing, stuff, item). Compare Zaiwa yoso ze.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /sɛ⁵⁵ ja³¹ tsai⁵⁵/ ~ /sə̆ ja³¹ tsai⁵⁵/

Noun[edit]

sɛ⁵⁵ ja³¹ tsai⁵⁵

  1. wild beast, wildlife
    kau³⁵ nju̠ŋ³¹ sə̆ ja³¹ tsai⁵⁵
livestock and wild beasts (i.e animals)

Usage notes[edit]

Pela originally lacked a general term for animals. Although tu³¹.sat⁵⁵, a loanword from Zaiwa is sometimes given, some speakers consider it a direct adoption from Zaiwa (the Zaiwa word is itself a loanword from Jingpho as well).
