[edit]From Ottoman Turkish صقساغان, صقسغان (saksağan, “magpie”), from Proto-Turkic *sagïzgan (“magpie”).[1]
Cognate with Azerbaijani sağsağan, Gagauz saksaan, saksan, Kyrgyz сагызган (sagızgan), Southern Altai саҥыскан (saŋïskan), Kazakh сауысқан (sauysqan), Salar sıxsığan, etc.
