From Old Anatolian Turkish صندل (sandal, ṣandal, ṣandalī, "seat, bench, throne"), from Arabic صَنْدَل (ṣandal, sandalwood) (borrowed synecdochically), from Middle Persian cndl (čandal, sandalwood), from Sanskrit चन्दन (candana, sandalwood). Compare English sandal.
