Etymology[edit]

From Vulgar Latin *expremere, from Latin exprimere, present active infinitive of exprimō, possibly influenced by excrementum phonetically. Compare Aromanian mi-sprem, sprimeari, mi-spreamit. Doublet of exprima, borrowed through French.
