semicircular canal (plural semicircular canals)

  1. (anatomy) Any of three semicircular interconnected tubes located inside each ear: the horizontal (or lateral) semicircular canal, the superior (or anterior) semicircular canal, and the posterior semicircular canal. They form part of the bony labyrinth.
