Etymology

Origin unknown. Perhaps of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language code; the value "gmq" is not valid. See WT:LOL. origin (compare Old Norse skutill (bolt, harpoon), Danish skyttel (shuttle, child's toy)). Compare also Old English sċytel (a dart, bolt). More at shuttle.
