Usage notes

The verb has two possible imperatives: slyš and poslyš. The first one is very literary, while the other one is used informally. They are not used to express an order, but to keep contact or get into contact with the listener, for example "Poslyš, Petře, chtěl jsem se tě zeptat, …". The verb poslouchat (listen) is used to express an order connected with perceiving with ears.[1]
