sphæroid (plural sphæroids)

  1. Archaic spelling of spheroid.
    • 1804, M. la Cépède quoted in The Critical Review, S. Hamilton; Volume I, page #511:
The flattened and irregular sphæroid is covered with indentations and ribs which converge at its lowest part ; and it is in this lowest part, situated almost under the long apophysis, thas we discover the true rings.   Each of these rings supports one of the first sharp radii of the anal fin, whose perforated basis forms another ring, connected with one of those of the flattened sphæroid.
