Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish تعقیبات (takibat), in the form of a plural of تعقیب (takib), from Arabic تَعْقِيب (taʕqīb). In Ottoman times, persecution rather than prosecution, with تعقیبات قانونیه (literally legal persecution) for the legal sense.
