Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish طاوق (tavuk, “hen, fowl”), from earlier *taɣuq/*taquq, from Proto-Turkic *tiakïgu (“hen, fowl”). Cognate with Chuvash чӑх (čăh, “hen”), Old Uyghur tʾqyγw (taqïɣu, “fowl, hen”), Karakhanid تَقاغُو (taqāɣū, “domestic fowl”).
