Italian

Etymology

Probably from Ancient Greek τηγάνιον (tēgánion), diminutive of τήγανον (tḗganon), variant of τάγηνον (tágēnon). Another theory links it to (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin tegumen, through a (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin *tegamen.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /teˈɡa.me/, [t̪eˈɡäːme̞]
  • Audio:(file)
  • Hyphenation: te‧gà‧me

Noun

tegame m (plural tegami)

  1. pan (for cooking; especially a frying pan)
