English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Pseudo-loan from Ancient Greek, as if formed from τετρα- (tetra-) +‎ εἴκοσι (eíkosi) by analogy with docosa-. However, Ancient Greek τετρακόσιοι (tetrakósioi) actually means “four hundred”, not “twenty-four”. The Ancient Greek word for “twenty-four” is εἰκοσιτέσσαρες (eikositéssares).

Prefix[edit]

tetracosa-

  1. twenty-four
