tieqa
Maltese
Etymology
From Arabic طاقة (ṭāqa, “window”), from طاق (ṭāq, “arch, doorway”), from Middle Persian tʾg (tāg, “arch”). The expected Maltese form would be *taqa due to the originally emphatic ṭ. The form tieqa probably goes back to a variant *تاقة (*tāqa), in which the initial had been dissimilated against the q; compare dejjaq. Compare Moroccan Arabic طاقة (ṭāqa), تاقة (tāqa).
