Etymology unknown. Compare Swedish tik. Known at least from 1634 in a Danish-Norwegian context (according to Moth). Also known in a runic spelling as ᛏᛁᛋᛔ+ in a magic manuscript from the second half of 18th century (also in a Danish-Norwegian spelling context).
