Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Vulgar Latin *thymellus, diminutive of Latin thymus, from Ancient Greek θύμος (thúmos). Borrowed into Catalan either from Spanish tomillo, with some kind of vowel adaptation, or more likely from Valencian Mozarabic.
