[edit]By surface analysis, turmann (“tour man”) + rot (“root”). Originally from Latin tormentilla, possibly through *turmanntille, whence also other dialectal names of tormentil, such as tillimann, rennskitstille (“diarrhea calm”) and tellerot (“count root”).
