After the final game of a handball competition, these txapeldunek (the champions) have been awarded larger trophy cups and txapelak (berets), while the txapeldunordeek (finalists) have been awarded smaller trophy cups and no beret.

Etymology

From txapel (“beret”) +‎ -dun (“one who has”). The "champion" sense stems from the fact that in the Basque Country, berets are traditionally awarded as prizes in competitions.
