Etymology[edit]

From Old Swedish vǣpna, from Old Norse vǽpna, vápna. Cognate of Middle Low German wêpenen, wâpenen. Attested on Södermanlands runinskrifter 137 in the form ᚢᛅᚴᛏᛁ (uakti).
