Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *d-wam (bear). Cognate with Burmese ဝံ (wam), Nuosu (wo), Old Chinese (*ɢʷlɯm), Tibetan དོམ (dom), Tangut 𗴈 (*dow²) and Bokar ɕu tum. Compare Lhao Vo vae, Zaiwa wam and Longchuan Achang ɔm⁵⁵.
