Portuguese[edit]

Adverb[edit]

vai que (not comparable) (+ indicative)

  1. what if (introduces a wild speculation)

Usage notes[edit]

  • Not (per se) interrogative: merely indicates a wild speculation and does not expect an answer. Used with present or past indicative. May never be used with the future indicative: speculations about the future must be expressed in the present indicative, e.g. vai que ele ganha (what if he wins).
