Hungarian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
veszendő (“perishable”) + -be (“into”) + megy (“to go”), from veszik (“to be lost, to perish”) + -endő (future participle suffix).
Pronunciation[edit]
Verb[edit]
- (intransitive) to go to waste, to be wasted, to be lost
- Synonyms: kárba vész, pocsékba megy, elvész, elkallódik
Usage notes[edit]
- The word order is switched in some of the sentence structures:
- Ebben a házban semmilyen élelem nem megy veszendőbe. ― In this house nothing edible is wasted.
- Occasionally, another word can be inserted between the two elements:
- Az ivóvízből mennyi ment teljesen veszendőbe? ― How much was totally wasted of the drinking water?
Conjugation[edit]
- For the verb, see megy.
- The inflected noun veszendőbe remains unchanged.
