From Lua error in Module:etymology at line 156: Old Occitan (pro) is not set as an ancestor of Catalan (ca) in Module:languages/data/2. The ancestor of Catalan is Old Catalan (roa-oca)., from Vulgar Latin *viglāre, from Latin vigilāre, present active infinitive of vigilō. Compare Occitan velhar, French veiller, Spanish velar. Cf. also the borrowed doublet vigilar.
