Etymology

A derivative of vjet (last year), variant of vit (year), from Proto-Albanian *weta, from Proto-Indo-European *wétos (year), contaminated with Latin vetus, veteris. Compare Lithuanian vẽtušas (old, archaic), Old Church Slavonic ветъхъ (vetŭxŭ, old, ancient). Attributed directly to Latin veterem by Orel.[1]
