Probably from Proto-Nuristani, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Haratníš via a speculative protoform *upařani, from Proto-Indo-European *Heh₃l- (to bow). Compare Ashkun oṛiṅ, Kamkata-viri ařë, Waigali avřa.
