Assimilated borrowing from Dutch winkelhaak, from Middle Dutch winkelhake.

winkelheak c (plural winkelheaken)

  1. try square; more generally any kind of square used to measure right angles, e.g. steel square, carpenter's square
  2. a rectangular tear or cut in fabric, in the shape of a try square.
