From Proto-Brythonic *ėnib, from Proto-Celtic *enīkʷos (“face”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁enih₃kʷos (“face”), from *h₁én and *h₃ókʷs (“eye”). Cognate with Breton eneb (“face”), Cornish enep (“face”), and Old Irish enech (“face”).
