[edit]Borrowed from Russian записка (zapiska), from записать (zapisatʹ, “to write down, to register”), from писать (pisatʹ, “write”), from Old East Slavic писати (pisati, “to write; to paint”), from Proto-Slavic *pisati, from Proto-Indo-European *peyḱ- (“to paint, draw”). Doublet of zapis.
