From Proto-Albanian *džernja, based on a less frequent form zie, from Proto-Albanian *džera, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰér-e-ti, from *gʷʰer-. Cognate to Ancient Greek θέρομαι (théromai, to become hot, to warm, to burn), Old Irish fogeir ((he) warms).[1]
