[edit]Inherited from Maghrebi Arabic اِسْفَنَّرِيّة (isfannariyya), from Arabic إِسْفَنَارِيَّة (ʔisfanāriyya), from Ancient Greek σταφυλίνη ἀγρία (staphulínē agría, “wild carrot”). Cognate to Libyan Arabic سفنّاريّة (sfənnāriyya) and several Iberian languages; see Spanish zanahoria.
