Etymology[edit]

In his book Αι Τοπωνυμίαι Αθηνών και Περιχώρων των (The Toponyms of Athens and its Surroundings) Kostas Biris suggests a Pelasgian (pre-Greek) origin, Luk-ab-ettú, a name meaning “breast-shaped height” (quoted by Mihalis Stukas).
