Inherited from the mediaeval Byzantine Greek ἀγαναχτῶ, from Ancient Greek ἀγανακτῶ (aganaktô) with [k] > [x], contracted form of ἀγανακτέω (aganaktéō). Compare to the more formal pronunciation αγανακτώ (aganaktó).
