Etymology[edit]

Calque of English automotive. From Hellenistic Koine αὐτοκινέω / αὐτοκινῶ (I have control of motion). Morphologically, αυτο- (auto-) +‎ κινούμενος (present perfect participle of κινώ "I move).[1]
