Etymology[edit]
From the mediaeval Byzantine Greek δεμάτιον, δεμάτιν, δεμάτι (demátion, demátin, demáti) from Koine Greek δεμάτιον (demátion), diminutive of δέμα (déma).[1] From δέω (déō) (sense: "tie").
