Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἑστιατόριον (hestiatórion, dining room, banqueting hall), from Ancient Greek ἑστίᾶσις (hestíâsis, a feasting), ἑστιάτωρ, ἑστιατορ- (hestiátōr, hestiator-, host of banquet) + Ancient Greek -ιον (-ion, genitive indicating "place of"),[1] the former component from ἑστιάω (hestiáō), from ἑστία (hestía, hearth).
