Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek μεγαλομάρτυρα (megalomártura), accusative singular of μεγαλομάρτυς (megalomártus).[1] By surface analysis, μεγαλο- (great) +‎ μάρτυρας (martyr; witness).
