Inherited from Byzantine Greek φασόλιν (phasólin) < *φασιόλιον, from diminutive of Hellenistic Koine Greek φασίολος (phasíolos), a reborrowing from Latin phaseolus, diminutive of phaselus, from Ancient Greek φάσηλος (phásēlos) a bean probably of the Vigna genus.[1][2] Also see φασούλι.
