Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘚𑘻𑘮𑘯𑘰 (ḍohaḷā), 𑘚𑘻𑘮𑘻𑘯𑘰 (ḍohoḷā), 𑘚𑘼𑘯𑘰 (ḍauḷā), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀟𑁄𑀳𑀮 (ḍohala), 𑀤𑁄𑀳𑀮 (dohala), from a derivative of Sanskrit द्विहृदया (dvihṛdayā, “double-hearted, pregnant”) (compare दोहद (dohada), दौर्हृद (daurhṛda)).[1] Compare Hindustani دوہَل (dohal) / दोहल (dohal), Sinhalese දොළ (doḷa).
