Inherited from Old Gujarati पीहर (pīhara), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀺𑀉𑀳𑀭 (piuhara), from Sanskrit *पितृघर (pitṛghara, father's house), a compound of पितृ (pitṛ́) +‎ घर (ghara). Cognate with Hindi and Marwari पीहर (pīhar).
