From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-lu(ŋ/m) (“heart; round”). Cognate with Drung tvleum (“round”), Jingpho lum (“round”) and Tibetan ཟླུམ (zlum, “round; spherical”).

From Proto-Karen *loŋᴮ (“stone, rock”) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *loŋ¹ (“idem”) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *r-lu(ŋ/k) (“stone”). Cognate with S'gaw Karen လၢၢ် (luẖ), Western Kayah ꤜꤟꤢꤪ (lo̤a).
