Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Geumganggyeong samgahae (金剛經三家解 / 금강경삼가해), 1482, as Middle Korean ᄎᆞᆯ〮ᄯᅥᆨ〮 (Yale: chól-sték), equivalent to (chal-, sticky, glutinous) +‎ (tteok, rice cake).
