Etymology[edit]
A calque of French en tout cas. Katharevousa set phrase (polytonic spelling: ἐν πάσῃ περιπτώσει) with preposition ἐν (en, “in”), the feminine singular dative πάσῃ (pásēi) of πᾶς (pâs, “everyone”) & περίπτωσις (períptōsis, “encountering”) -modern περίπτωση (períptosi, “case, instance”)-.
