Of the root ء ي س (ʔ-y-s), from يَئِسَ (yaʔisa) by metathesis.

Verb[edit]

أَيِسَ (ʔayisa) I, non-past يَأْيَسُ‎ (yaʔyasu)

  1. to give up hope, to despair
