From Middle Persian *čāhrēg, from [script needed] (cʾh /⁠čāh⁠/, pit, well) +‎ [script needed] (lyk' /⁠rēg⁠/, sand), or from Middle Persian *čahrīg, from [script needed] (cʾhr /⁠čahr⁠/, wheel).
