Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Semitic *ṣ́aʾn- (small cattle, sheep). Cognate with Akkadian 𒇇𒇻𒄭𒀀 (ṣēnum) and Biblical Hebrew צֹאן (ṣoʾn).
