Borrowed from Classical Persian آتش (ātaš), from Middle Persian ʾthš (ātaxš), borrowed from Avestan 𐬁𐬙𐬀𐬭𐬱 (ātarš, fire), from Proto-Iranian *ātr-. Compare Bengali আতশ (atoś), Gujarati આતશ (ātaś), Punjabi ਆਤਸ਼ (ātaś).
