Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀕𑀮𑀤𑀺 (galadi), from Sanskrit गलति (galati), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *gálati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gálati, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷél-e-ti, from *gʷel- (to drip, dribble, ooze, flow). Cognate with Punjabi ਗਲਣਾ (galṇā), Gujarati ગળવું (gaḷvũ), Assamese গলা (gola).
