Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Classical Persian منع (man'), from Arabic مَنْع (manʕ), verbal noun of مَنَعَ (manaʕa, to prevent, forbid). Compare Bengali মানা (mana), Dhivehi މަނާ (manā).
