Inherited from Sanskrit अर्यिका (aryikā) or Sanskrit अम्बा (ambā), ultimately from Proto-Indo-Aryan *āī, a nursery word. In some dialects, borrowed from Marathi आई (āī). Cognate with Assamese আই (ai), Marathi आई (āī), Nepali आइमाइ (āimāi). Sindhi ائي / आई (āī).
