From วุ้น (wún, jelly) +‎ แปล (bplɛɛ, to translate) +‎ ภาษา (paa-sǎa, language), literally "language-translating jelly", after a fictional gadget in the Japanese manga Doraemon (ドラえもん), called "translation jelly" or "jelly translator" (ほんやくコンニャク hon'yaku-konnyaku).
